Project Description:
These four schools indicated are part of a Department of Education scheme to build 30 schools in a 9 month period including planning and design and construction

These schools are constructed in “system” or “rapid build”, constructed in metal framing by ABM main contractors and Fusion steel framing specialists including car parking, site services and roadways.

To achieve this fast track programme the building structure was manufactured off site using an insulated light gauge steel frame system which eliminated more traditional methods of construction such as in-situ concrete and block work. This allowed the on-site works to the structure, including windows and roof, to be completed in 6 weeks

The schools which Hayes Higgins Partnership are currently working on, include

2 No. 16 classroom schools at Scoil Choilm Community National School, Porterstown Road, Kellystown, Dublin
1 No. 8 classroom school at Athy, Kildare
1 No. 8 classroom school at Rochestown, Cork.

Innovation:
Design and Construction of the Schools at Kellystown and Athy was completed within 9 months. This is a testament to the system build process.

Planning issues outside our control affected the progress of the second school at Kellystown and the School at Cork.

Total Capital Value: €14m

Dates of Involvement: 2007 to 2009

Current Status of Project:
Blanchardstown Project 1 of 2 is complete.
Athy is Complete
Cork is on site, completion expected May 2009
Blanchardstown 2 of 2 awaits construction a new road by the local Authority before construction of the school can commence
